What Causes Fever, Fatigue And Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Sep 2017
Question: Hi, my 19 yr old daughter is visiting from college and had been experiencing extreme fatigue (for about 2 weeks but can't get out of bed at all today) sick to her stomach, with abdominal pain. She has no fever but has thrown up once after taking some tums. No rash or fever but says she feels "fever-y". She does have low red blood cells and is anemic. She did start her period yesterday so I thought it may be anemia but she took care of a friend 2 nights ago who was diagnosed with mono about 3 weeks ago. Do you think this is mono or more anemia> She said that her throat does not hurt at all but I have not checked to see if her glands are swollen.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be infectious mono nucleosus

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic

The symptoms your daughter is experiencing could likely be due to mono, given her exposure to person who had a recent diagnosis of mono.

However, it would be helpful if I could know few more details so that I can give a definite diagnosis.

-When did the symptoms start?
-Where is the exact location of abdominal pain?
- Any diarrhea associated with vomiting?
-Does she have a fever?
- Any rashes ?
- Is she on any medications or any other health concerns?

The anemia is unlikely to cause these symptoms. However, if she is anemic I would recommend further evaluation to find the underlying cause of anemia. Iron deficiency is a common cause for women who menstruate.
