What Causes Fever And Frequent Urination When Diagnosed With UTI?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Question: My wife was diagnosed with urine infection. Doctor said that it might be due to sexual intercourse between husband and wife and so she told us to avoid sex for some time. But, the fact is, I never had sexual intercourse with her. So what could be the possible reasons for her urine infection? Since the month of May, this year, she has been doing job in a hospital as Cardiac OT nurse. Within 10 days she got urine infection for the first time. After that she had urine infection for a couple more times. She occasionally experienced fever, pain during urination, and frequent urination. Once she also experienced infection in her eyes, in which her eyes became red with burning sensation.

Brief Answer:
Get urine culture done

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .Your wife who is working as a nurse in hospital has repeated episodes of UTI during this last 6 months

Getting UTI in females is common in your wife's case it may be due to following few factors
1) Cross infection from the bacteria present in hospital environment is are very common in those who are working here
2) Use f common female toilets which are hygienically not clean
3) Migration of bacteria bacteria from their natural habitat around anal region to urethra

Get her routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Ask her to take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkaliser thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water. To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Ask her to avoid using common female toilets and clean perineal area with water after passing urine

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
