What Causes Feeling Of Something Stuck In The Throat?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Mar 2017
Question: I have a feeling like there is something stuck in my throat. Throat clicks at top of Adam's apple when I swallow. I get so nervous about it. Doctor says it's fine and could be acid reflux or anxiety. I had a neck US to check my thyroid but it was clear. Bloodwork is good. Can anxiety really cause such a strong physical sensation? Sometimes my chest bothers me too.

Brief Answer:
Get a Triple Endoscopy done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your question.
It could be nothing but better to get it evaluated by an ENT Specialist.
You need something called a Triple Endoscopy. They evaluate your throat, larynx and esophagus. If this test is clear then there is nothing to worry about.
Do not get tensed, it probably is nothing but please get it evaluated thoroughly.
Take care and do let me know if there are other queries on this issue.

I'm scared of cancer.

And it feels better when I'm less anxious.

I also have a lot of postnasal drip.

Brief Answer:
Cancer is quite unlikely, dont worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Cancer is quite unlikely. So do not worry about that.
Post nasal drip could be the cause for this feeling. It would be the commonest cause.
For anxiety you can take Tab Alprazolam 0.25mg at night to help you.
Take care and let me know when the investigation is done.
You can share if there are any queries. I will always try to help.

Thank you. My GP says ENT is unnecessary. I guess I just have to give it time.

Can I take medicine for postnasal drip?

How long will it take for my throat to heal if this is inflammation caused by acid reflux?

Brief Answer:
Start medicines for Postnasal drip & Reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Thanks for your reply.
You can take Tab Cetrizine 10mg or Tab Fexofenadine 120mg twice a day for post nasal drip.
Mucosal inflammation due to acid reflux takes a few weeks to months to heal.
But you can start taking Tab Pantoprazole 40mg or Cap Omeprazole 20mg twice a day, half an hour before meals. This will help. Take it for 4 to 8 weeks.
Remember to not take any spices, cut down on hot beverages. Also remember that you should not lie down immediately after meals. Try to walk around after meals for 20 to 30 minutes.
Keep your head a little higher when you lie down rather than flat. You could add on a pillow. These things will help decrease reflux.
Take care and do let me know if there any queries.
