What Causes Fatigue, Frequent Urination, Low Appetite And Nausea?

Question: The last week of April my mom (65 yrs old) called me and said she woke up to urinate and couldnt breath..this happened three nights in a row, I took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with bronchitis. Afterwards her urinations increased especially at night, low grade fever and nausea and no appetite. She thought perhaps it was a side effect of what ever meds she was prescribed, however, even when she had finished the meds the frequent urination continued. She went to the dr and he gave her meds for a UTI..urine results came back neg for that..took another urine sample gave her more\different meds for a UTI which again came back clean. Finally checked her kidney function which are fine. Referred to an OBGYN who checked her bladder which is intact and hasnt fallen however the next appt is not until XXXXXXX 11th to fill her bladder and do some tests. My mom weighs 103 lbs normally and is down to 98 with these ongoing symptoms of low grade fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, frequent urination. Do you have any suggestions on cause, condition, disease, disorder or medical care I need to seek on her behalf?

Brief Answer:
You are on the right tract.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for sharing your mom's problem with us.
You are on a right tract. The next consultation she need is from a Uro-gynecologist for which that bladder filling test is required.
Actually in postmenopausal ladies due to hormonal deficiency female bladder & urethra become weak. So, old ladies may develop frequency of urination & nocturia ( multiple urination at night). Up to two times per night is quite normal for her age.
These changes do not appear soon after menopause but take some time like in her case. Or may be due to recent attack of bronchitis & breathlessness her intra-abdominal pressure raised & made the urethral supports more weak.
If she was given some diuretic medicine it may be a side effect of it.
However, once a diagnosis is made after the Urodynamic studies, she will get the treatment she needs.
By that time avoid fluids specially caffeinated drinks at night to ease the problem.
Give her good balanced diet.
Her other symptoms may indicate an ongoing chronic health problem. Just show her to a good physician for thorough systemic review & to pick up any other undiagnosed problem.
Better to get one abdomino-pelvic ultrasound for the same reason even if there is nothing wrong obviously in that area.
Hope she gets well soon.
Take care.
