What Causes Excessive Sweating After Taking Thyronorm?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Sep 2014
Question: I am 35years, 72kg, 5' 9", non smoker, non alcoholic male. I have been suffering from burping and gas issues from past 2-3 years and fatigue from past 1 year. By the time I reached home I felt like sleeping. My concentration level had been really poor for quite some years and I had very low energy.

In oct' 2013 one of the doctors I visited asked me to do a complete checkup. I had abdomen ultrasound, chest xray, gall bladder, LFT, thyroid, ECG done. Thyroid TSH reading was 4.5 and my total cholestrol was 220 and LDL was 161. I had done cholestrol earlier and despite having moderaltely active lifestyle my cholestrol was increasing. Doctor suggested that since I have mildly high TSH and since thyroid can cause cholestrol increase, She put me on crestor 10mg and asked to visit an endochronologist.

I visited endochronologist in Nov' 2013 and the endochronologist asked me to wait for 3 months and repeat the test and in March' 2014 TSH was 5.9. Total Cholestrol dropped drastically to 100 (probably due to crestor). I was also tested for vit b12 and vit d deficiency and vit b12 was 174 and also vit d was less so I was put on methylcobal 1000 mcg injection (10 injection everyday and 1 every month for three months) and vit d 60000 tablets for 3 months. Doctor also started thyronorm 37.5 mcg. Crestor 10 mg was stopped. TMT, ECHO was done and both were negative to rule out cardiac issue.

After three months in June' 2014 TSH was 4.5. Total Cholestrol increased and was around 150. I was put on thyronorm 50 mcg this time.

Now the question is since March when thyronorm is started I have excessive sweating. Even if I do brisk walk for 10 minutes there is so much of sweat. In the night also I sweat. I used to feel cold a lot of times and this is a big change for me. Although I am not loosing weight (its constant around 72.5kgs since thyronom has started) but I seem to be lossing fat and muscle and I have started looking thin. Does the treatment look correct? I am worried about lot of changes in my health and dont have a general sense of well being since a very long time. Burping and gas passing has subsided since thyronorm has started. Could it be a case of lactose intolerance also as I have observed that after having milk burping increases but there is no diarrhea.

PS: We have strong history of heart attacks in our family.

Brief Answer:
?? Possible hyperthyroidism following hypothyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. You seem to be experiencing symptoms of hyperthyroidism. You have not mentioned T3 and T4 levels. It is possible that you are experiencing hyperthyroidism due to excessive dose of thyronorm.

Hypothyroidism being followed by hyperthyroidism is also common, and in some cases is due to various medications taken over a long period of time, but there are other causes as well.

Loss of weight although there is an increase in appetite, sweating, palpitations, tremors, mood changes, etc; are all symptoms of hyperthyroidism sir. I would request you to report to your doctor to check on your thyroid profile and confirm the same. A change in medication or a reduction in dosage might be warranted.

I hope you find my response helpful. I would be more than happy to help you with any further clarifications you have sir, so please do not hesitate to write back to me anytime.

Best wishes.

Today I got my TSH done and my TSH level is now 0.553. Looks like it has reduced too much too fast. Also I have done my lipid profile and my LDL is 110 which has risen again, last reading in XXXXXXX 2014 was 40. Why is my LDL rising?

Brief Answer:
Poor lifestyle; need medication change

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Yes, as I had suggested in my previous response either a change in medication or a change in dosage will be required to help with your thyroid profile.

As for your LDL levels, please understand that LDL is the bad cholesterol and should not be high. A rish in LDL levels indicates either a poor diet, lack of exercise, unhealthy consumption of food, obesity, etc. Your levels are still near normal, but are getting close to abnormal levels and you will have to shift to a more healthy lifestyle including exercise and a healthy diet in order to keep your cholesterol levels under control sir.

I hope this information helps you sir. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always available to help.

Best wishes.
