Brief Answer:
if acutely unwell this can cause a temporary increase in blood pressure

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Amlodipine is a blood pressure medication belonging to family of medications called calcium channel blocker. This means that they block the flow of calcium and this helps relax the blood vessels and decrease blood pressure.

They would not be associated with an increase in blood pressure.

If you are starting to feel unwell (the fatigue, aches and pains, headaches) , it is possible that you may have a viral illness and this stress on your body can cause a temporary increase in blood pressure.

This should normalize when you start to feel better but if there is no improvement then the medications may need altering, the amlodipine can be increased since it is at its lowest dose.
A diuretic, to help lose excess fluid that may be raising the blood pressure, may also be considered eg hydrocholorothiazide

if these symptoms have been ongoing for a long period of time then chronic illnesses would need to be ruled out by examination and investigations.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I had a flu type symtem up to the couple days ago, even I still have a cough residual. Could it be still from infection. I used to take pravastatin and asprin up to a couple years ago and my doctor discontinued my PRAV AND ASPRIN BECUASE I had muscle aches and my chlestrol was low. but i got scared when my blood pressure went up becuase I have one stint THREE YEARS AGO , so restarted PRVAS AND ASPRIN ON MY OWN. Should i continue with PRAV and ASPRI. or not ? becuase I feel tired and light headed again. Thanks.Should I continue with pravastatin and asprine.

Brief Answer:
discontinue, would not help with immediate symptoms, discuss with ur doctor

Detailed Answer:
HI

Yes, the infection, especially if you still have symptoms , can affect your blood pressure temporarily.
The fatigue and lightheadness can be due to the infection.

The pravastatin would not help the blood pressure and it would not have any immediate effect. This should only be restarted after discussion with your doctor. Because you have a stent, both a cholesterol medication and aspirin would be good but since the pravastatin did not agree with you, your doctor may give you an alternative.

You should stop and speak to your doctor first, as mentioned would not help with any immediate symptoms anyway.

If your blood pressure continues to be high though the infection goes away, your blood pressure medication may to be altered
