Brief Answer:
Common

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. I would not get concerned about the raised red blood cell count. However, I would say that the burps are not uncommon in a case of fatty liver disease. Our gastrointestinal tract has a forward propulsive movement (peristalsis) that moves the food material forward as it is digested, absorbed and finally expelled as feces. If somehow this movement gets hampered, food along with the digestive juices would stagnate. It can also lead to gas formation and the release of those gases as burps.

I would insist you to ask him to abstain from drinking, if that is relevant.

Brief Answer:
The sugar level (as reflected by HbA1c level) is important

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the update. Non alcoholic steatohepatitis (other name for fatty liver) is a known entity. I would insist you to get your husband's blood HbA1c level checked. If that is not raised, you just need not bother about the fatty liver.

Does this test need to be taken on fasting?

Sir but the blood glucose levels seem to be normal when tested 6 months ago
doctor
Answered by Dr. Prof. Kunal Saha (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Fasting not required

Detailed Answer:
No, there is nothing specific to require a fasting condition when this test is done. It is good to know that the blood sugar was normal 6 months back. This test will show how good the control over blood sugar had been over the last 3 months. A normal report will indicate you have no reason to worry about the fatty liver. A raised HbA1c on the other hand will call for treatment with antidiabetic medication.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

HbA1c level is not same as sugar test. Anyway, the result is favorable and you need not worry.

The raised RBC count is not a cause for concern unless he has respiratory distress or some similar ailment (usually seen in smokers). In such a case it would be advisable to quit smoking. He also needs to drink plenty of water. No other intervention required.

In such a case you need not get worried about the fatty liver. You can just let it be.

Feel free to ask me back directly if you have a health related query in the future.

Sir thank you for the response . One more doubt is his esr @ first hour came as 2 and second hour @ 3 . The second hour value is low as per the lab. Is this normal?

He is a non smoker. His hbg value is 16.9

He dont seem to have any respiratory issues but complains about headache.he has sinusitis.

Brief Answer:
Smoking is the culprit

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. ESR is not a parameter that you need to bother about. The low ESR is actually related to the rise in hemoglobin level but that is not a cause for concern.

His smoking is damaging his lungs. Possibly much damage has been done already. The body is not able to do gaseous exchange properly due to this damage and is trying to compensate by increasing the hemoglobin levels in reaction to the increases carbon di oxide levels. It is high time you take note of the same and urge him to stop smoking. Respiratory issues might not have yet appeared but it is evident that the body is in a compensated state.

Let me state bit more clearly. Smoking damages the respiratory epithelium which has tiny cilia which propel the respiratory secretions outside. This is called mucociliary clearance. This mucosa has already been damaged and the damaged mucociliary clearance is responsible for his sinusitis and headache. In other words, it simply confirms my explanation. Its high time for him to quit smoking.

Taking steam inhalation can provide relief as it helps in opening up the openings of the sinuses that have been blocked by thickened mucus. Water in form of vapour will reach deep inside and will help in dilute the thickened mucus.

Ask him to take rest and plenty of fluids to drink. He may take naproxen 500 mg tablet when required for headache.

Feel free to write back.

Answered by Dr. Prof. Kunal Saha (24 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Pardon me for misunderstanding

Detailed Answer:
In case he is not a smoker, there is no reason to worry. He does not need to bother about the ESR or hemoglobin levels. Steam inhalation and nasal rinse would help in sinusitis. Otherwise he needs to drink plenty of fluids.

If you have any further queries, feel free to write back.
