What Causes Equivocal Results With Ovulation Predictor Kits?

Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I had the first day of my last period on April 16th and an ovulation predictor kit came back positive on April 28th, and 29th or the 29th and 30th (I can't remember which) I got a positive pregnancy test (3 positive and 2 negative) 4 weeks and 1 day from the first day of last period. I have had mild cramping on and off, nothing that seems concerning, tired, hungry, and mild Nausea on and off. Went to my first appointment yesterday and founder out that the baby only measures 5.5 weeks and not the 7 weeks and 3 days my docotrs is convinced I'm supposed to be. The doctor is having me go back in next week for another ultrasound but has basically told me my baby stopped growing at 5.5 weeks. I thought those were guestimates. It seems she is also assuming I have a 28 day cycle but my cycles are between 33 and 38 days and ovulation tests come back positive at between 15 and 19th day of my cycle. I feel like she has just written off the possibility the baby is just not at 7 weeks because of a calculation. I have no hope at this point and am looking for someone to claim why she might write this off so quickly. Is there at all a chance that everything will have progressed well over the next week?

Brief Answer:
Repeat scan after 1 week

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety and despair definitely but there is an obvious gap between estimated gestation and apparent one.
Chances delayed conception are also ruled out since you did ovulation prediction kit.
But still it is premature to comment as yet and you can wait for another week.
Till then take tablet duphaston 10 mg two times a day and take a lot of rest.
I wish you best of health and of course a healthy pregnancy.
