default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: Hi I have been having gastro problems for the last 2 weeks, belching, burping or try to sometimes feels like I can't burp but need too, gas, pressure in chest on occasion and bloating. Seems to happen after meals..
I have very mild pain on and off on my right side towards my back in waist area. Went to my GP who took some tests and sent me for sonogram of RUQ. Results were bilirubin in urine liver panel normal and need to take vitamin D. Sonogram results normal.. I idea what would be causing the bilirubin in the urine I read that pancreatic cancer can cause this and am panicked. I have barely been eating because seems like only bread, oatmeal and a few other things are the causing the gastro problems to go crazy. Anyway going crazy with all of this. Thanks for any info you could provide. XXXX

Brief Answer:
pancrearic cancer less likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

Pancreatic cancer is a super rare cause of bilirubin in urine, and even that causes bilirubin in urine when it obstructs the bile ducte, if your liver panel and ultrasound is normal pancreatic cancer is very less likely so you do not have to panic.

Your symptoms are consistant with GI upet which can be dealt with quite easily here area a few suggestions regarding that.

1) Avoid coffee caffeine fizzy drinks sour food and smoking or alcohol(what ever is relevant).
2) Use much fluids.
3) Avoid dairy.
4) Use fibre containing food... You can use fibre supplement too... whole wheat oat bread XXXXXXX bread multi grain bread and fruits vegetables with fibre will be helpful.
5) Stay XXXXXXX , 15 minutes of walk a day will be helpful.
6) If life style changes didnt help I would have prescribed my patient with prokinetic with gastric ezymes for five days to stablize issues.

Billirubin can be in urine because of many causes and in your scenario pancrearic cancer is very very less likely. I would suggest you not to panic and discuss with you doctor about other possible causes of billiruben in urine.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.

Hi thanks for your response I feel a lot better. I have an appt with the gastro dr on Tuesday. Let me ask you this since the sonogram did not show any gallstones would it be likely for me to have a blockage in one of the ducts? Also God forbid there was a tumor in one of the ducts would the sonogram
Diagnose that? Any idea about why I have the bilirubin in the urine? Thanks so much for your help sorry to keep harping on the cancer and tumor subject but read to much about the duct and pancreatic cancers and really scared myself!!
Thanks again XXXX

Brief Answer:
Ducts do show up in ULtrasound usually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for writing back, I understant you are concerned about cancer. If there was a blockage in the duct due to ANY reason the part of ductr befor the blockage would have been found swollen up due to collection of secretions coming from behind, and it would have been seen in the ultrasound.

But as ultrasound is normal so there is almost no chance of you having any billirubin due to duct blockage.

Bilirubin can be because of many reasons like breadown of blood cells due to any reason this will need workup by your gastroentrologist but for now I would suggest you not to panic things seem to be well undercontrol.

regards.
Dr.Ahmad
