Posted on Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, I have G6PD and my ferritin has been 800, 640 and now 600 in the last 6 months. I also have alpha thalassemia minor. We have done tons of test to see why ferritin is a bit elevated. Any ideas? Could I be having slight hemolysis and ferritin is leaking out? Also will my organs be ok with low sustained number?

Brief Answer:
It can be increase in inflammation also.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

Your ferritin level is slightly high. It not much significant. Because ferritin is also act as acute phase reactant and it can increase in some king of inflammation also. If your iron is normal then it is OK. Check for CRP level once to rule out inflammation. Go for ultrasound abdomen also.
It is not any serious issue so don't worry much about that.

Give me follow up with your all reports.
