What Causes Elevated CRP Levels?

Question: Dear Doctor, I understand that either the chronicity of overlap myeloproliferitve-myelodysplasticity disorder or an underlying infection can elevate both the WCC and the CRP. I would like to know whether the CRP is too high in this particular case for it to be caused by the haematological disorder. I have sent an attachment providing you with some pathological and other medical data. CRL is elevated due to underlying infectious / inflammatory condition.

Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
CRP is an acute phase reactant and is raised in infectious and inflammatory conditions.
Thus,myeloproliferative- myelodysplastic condition is probably not the cause of elevated CRP.
The level of CRP is directly proportional to the underlying infection or inflammation.
CRP levels start coming to normal once, the cause is treated.
I suggest you to consult your treating physician regarding any underlying cause of elevated CRP.
There is possibly infectious / inflammatory process which is causing elevated CRP.

Thank you Dr. Puri? I sent an attachment providing additional information for you which did not upload and I then sent am email to Customer Care who said that they would pass on the attachment to you. Could you please tell me whether you received the additional information? I have consulted my physician but he doesn't know much about overlap myeloproliferative-myelodysplacity disorder. He says that the chronicity of the condition can raise the CRP. This baffles me. If you have seen the attachment giving the details of the very high CRP, would you still say that it is unlikely to be caused by the haematological disorder?

I have received the attachment and I have gone through it also.
CRP s raised due to an underlying infectious or inflammatory condition.
Thus, a through clinical assessment needs to be done to look for underlying of cause of high CRP.
Infectious or inflammatory conditions need to be ruled out before considering hematological disorders to be the cause of raised CRP.
