Brief Answer:
More information needed about your son's condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX, and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

More information needed about your son's symptoms and medical history, in order to have a correct opinion about its condition.

If your son will present at my clinic, I would ask him a few questions such: where exactly is the location of affected area? did he hit his head recently? from how long did he noticed this jelly area? had he any previous imaging studies ( x-rays, head CT) done?

To clarify better the nature of this concern, I would recommend a head CT scan, in order to evaluate better this jelly area, underlying bone and sinuses condition.

I think it is an area of subcutaneous ( under the skin) collection of liquid ( denatured blood, abscess eg.), but imaging study in this case is of paramount importance.

Electric shock-like sensation down his shoulder and arm is most probably related to nerve interactions between affected area and cervical spine.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

he had a scan done a few years ago, and sinus problem was indictated, but he has been doing nose washes and seems to be having antibiotics fairly often. The area is on the top of his head towards the back more, has a couple of harder lumps as well.no he has not hit his head recently, and it has been about two weeks since he noticed this. cheers XXXX (his mother)

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound or head CT scan needed.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back XXXX.

From your description, seems like local infection affecting local lymph nodes too.

Scalp jelly-like area can be assessed about its nature by having done an ultrasound, a fast and cheap imaging tool.

These enlarged lymph nodes (or bumps) may be related to sinus infection.

Since this is a virtual medical evaluation, the value of a true medical examination can't be replaced, so I suggest to have an ENT Doctor evaluation about your son's concerns.

I don't see anything not to be considered properly, or misinterpreted about your son's condition.

Havin done CT scan years back, has no value in this moment.

If there exists the possibility of having done CT scan again, this is the best tool of evaluating actual condition.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions or clarifications, feel free to ask, if not you can close the conversation and rate the answer.

Wishing you and your son's good health.
