What Causes Dulled Hearing And Clogged Ears?

Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: I have had tinnitus in my right ear for 7/8 years. I use flonase daily for sinusitus .Recently I noticed bubbling in my left ear. A couple of days later There was a low whooshing sound that is now constant. Also, both ears alternately feel blocked and wont clear. My nose was stuffed up more than usual this winter. My hearing is not as good as it was before the bubbling and whooshing sound. Do I have an infection in my ear? .Do I have Eustacian tube problems?

Brief Answer:
Possible ( eusthacian tube dysfunction + senile deafness)

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having sounds in ear.

Based on your clinical details, it (sounds) occurs to be due to both aged onset deafness(sensorineural deafness) and conductive deafness ( eusthacian tube dysfunction secondary to stuffy nose).

As such, sensorineural deafness is common after 60 years, presents with sounds ( tinnitus) and blockage.

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination, audiometry ( type and degree of hearing loss, eusthacian tube dysfunction). Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Mean time, do steam inhalation to clear thick secretions from nose and sinuses, do valsalva exercises ( watch you tube video).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

audiometry

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Echo sound occurs with sensorineual hearing loss ( nerve degeneration occurs with ageing).

Kindly go ahead for the investigations (audiometry).

All the best.Take care.
