What Causes Dull Pain In Left Upper Arm?

default
Posted on Fri, 22 May 2015
Question: Hello, I am 19 years old. Early this morning, around 6 am, I had somewhat intense dull, aching pain in my left upper arm on the side the bicep muscle is located, near the elbow. My entire arm felt a little like it was "asleep." My fingers on the same arm were slightly tingling. A possibly related pain occurred earlier, in my right shoulder, closer to the spine. The pain felt as if it were coming from deep muscle tissue. The area of the skin superficial to the deep muscle tissue was slightly numb. I have recently not been getting a lot of exercise or sleep and have been generally stressed. For about the past week or so, I have been mostly sedentary. It is now about 3:30 pm and I am having similar symptoms. The feelings of numbness in the shoulder, pain in the upper left arm and tingling in the fingers leads me to believe that this could be a circulatory issue, but then again, I am not a doctor. Another bit of information that may help - I am overweight and I am a smoker

Brief Answer:
I suggest you try doing some physical exercises, at least!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully. At your age, it is unlikely that these symptoms are suggestive of a concurring blood vessel or heart disease. However, decreased blood supply as a result of poor exercise could explain all the reported symptoms. I understand life has been hard and may not be at its best but doing some exercises would help revitalize these tissues and take care of these symptoms.

Being overweight and smoking is dangerous for your health. Persons with such risk factors are increased risk of heart disease. I strongly recommend that you stop smoking. Get practical advice on dietary and lifestyle measures to reduce your weight. These would be very helpful both now and in the long run.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
