What Causes Dry Red Patch Behind Calf?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jun 2015
Question: I have a small red spot about the size of a dime on the back of my calf. It feels really dry compared to the rest of my leg. I had it several months ago in the same spot and then it went away and now it is back. It doesn't itch but it is ugly! What could it be?

Brief Answer:
Psoriasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photograph.
It is looking like psoriasis.
Sometimes psoriasis presents with a single patch.
I treat such cases with a combination of topical steroid and salicylic acid cream.
This gives good relief within a week.
You can try this in consultation with your doctor.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you

Can it spread to other areas? Should I keep it covered?

Brief Answer:
It will not spread.

Hello
No it will not spread to other areas. Psoriasis does not work that way.
Just apply the cream and let it remain open.
Thank you
