default
Posted on Fri, 24 Nov 2017
Question: Hey doctor for the last couple of days on my left foot I have been having this annoying itch especially after having a shower. The itch is on the right side of my foot in between the gap where the big toe is. What could this be do you think this could be it seems a little dry and flaky and there is some brown spots on there? I have attached an image of it as well.

I forgot to mention the itch mainly comes on after a hot shower as well and is localised in the winged spot where my big toe is.

Hello XXXXXXX

The most likely cause of a rash like this between the toes is athletes foot caused by a fungal infection of the skin (tinea pedis). Treatment is an anti fungal cream and to keep the skin as dry as possible (change damp socks, etc). Because this infection can spread, use a separate towel to dry your feet, launder it in hot water, and wash your hands after putting the cream on or touching the area.

The appearance though, looks a bit like eczema (atopic dermatitis) but that is more common in people who have allergies or asthma. Thickened brown skin can happen with eczema, but usually would take longer than 2 days to look like that. Treatment for eczema is steroid cream such as hydrocortisone or triamcinolone cream.

Either can itch from a hot shower.

I don't know if you can get these sorts of creams without prescription in Australia, but I hope this information helps.

Thanks for that doctor clears it up for me just another thing though on a different topic I have been getting these pin sized red dots on my hands and sometimes on my arms as well. I have attached an image of them what exactly can it be I have also had these larger red sized rashes which you can see in the image attached on my pinky. What do you think this could be and is it worth getting examined?

Hi XXXXXXX

Sometimes people can get tiny clear fluid filled blisters on their fingers, which is caused by a virus in the herpes family and can come out more when they have stress. These are usually tender and not itchy. But you say yours is also on your arms too and it doesn't quite look like clear fluid but more like tiny pinkish bumps.

It could be from a sensitivity reaction to something you have come in contact with (new soap, detergent, something you carried with that hand or arm).

I would say if you have had it for several days without improvement, or if it is spreading, or if it is giving you any symptoms, then do go in to get it examined in person.

Hey doc just an update on that I have developed this massive red spot on my neck last night which looks like acne, but I am unsure I have attached a couple of images of it. It's quite painful and hurts when I swallow too what do you think it is could it be a skin parasite or just acne and if so what's the best way to treat it?

I have a bit of acne on my cheeks but it's never be painful before this one looks like a massive lump that popped up out of nowhere.

Detailed Answer:
This looks like a bacterial skin infection but it would be strange for it to be very painful when you swallow if it is just confined to the skin.

Usually hot compresses will get it in check, but if it is spreading at all, or getting worse in any way, then you do need to go in to be seen in person.

You can try applying hot wet washcloth on it for several minutes at a time a minimum of 3 times a day (keep rewetting the cloth with hot running water). Not so hot that it burns your skin of course.
