What Causes Dry Eyes Even After Using Refresh Tears?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: Is there an opthomologist there? I have extremely dry eyes since my twenties. I use Refresh tears often but they are not enough. I wake up at night because my eyes feel so uncomfortable. Is there anything else that I can do to relieve this condition?

Brief Answer: Other treatment options are available for dry eye. Detailed Answer: Hello Madam Welcome to Health care Magic Iam Dr. Dadapeer K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye. It seems from the history that you are having dry eyes and you are using Refresh tears as a treatment for dry eyes. Use of artificial tears eye drops is the first line of treatment and it works out well in mild to moderate cases, however in severe dry eyes other options of treatment need to be considered. The other options need to be considered are Prseservation of tears by using punctal plugs Use of antiinflammatory drugs like cyclosporine or steroids Along with this evaluation to find out the underlying cause and treatment of the cause is second important aspect. The most commonest is Sjogren's syndrome usually associated with arthritis. Since you have mentioned about the history of arthritis this needs to be ruled out. The other causes are diseases of the eye lid margin like blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction... Hence I can advice you that use of artificial tears like Refresh tears is the initial or first line of treatment however for severe cases other treatment options like use of punctal plugs, use of cyclosporine or steroid eye drops... are available. Hence I suggest you to consult your ophthalmologist for evaluation and treatment accordingly depending on the severity, type of dry eye and for treatment of underlying causes if any. Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you. With regards Thank you
