default
Posted on Wed, 16 Jul 2014
Question: I had a mess of a cataract surgery that resulted in a shredded retina. After going through a vitrectomy and reattachment of the retina, it is now 3 months after the vitrectomy, I am only on Combigen and Restasis. I am experiencing some of the side effects of drowsiness, weakness, decreased reactions and cannot tell if the retina is a mess or if the Combigen is causing fuzzy sight. I am 65, weigh 195, female and in good health.

Brief Answer:
Combigan is known to cause these side effects.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

It seems from the history that you have undergone cataract surgery following which you have developed retinal detachment. Following surgery for retinal detachment you are on treatment with Combigan and Restasis eye drops.

Combigan is a combination of Brimonidine and Timolol and is used to control increased intraocular pressure.
The symptoms you have mentioned like drowsiness, weakness.... are known side effects of combigan. Hence if the symptoms are affecting your day to day life you can use alternative drugs to decrease the intraocular pressure.
Regarding the status of the retina following surgery, examination of the retina by ophthalmoscopy or by B-scan will be able to tell the condition of the retina following surgery.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination of retina and for measurement of intraocular pressure and prescription of alternative eye drops to control intraocular pressure if it is elevated.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
