What Causes Dizziness, eyelid Spasms And Tightness On Face?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 May 2014
Question: Just need another view on this , cant help but think something is really wrong.

Lightheaded/off balance sensation/eyelid spasms especially after working out/dizzy spells /tightness feelings on face are my symptoms.

March 1st I drank a lot of alcohol on empty stomach. Next day still barely ate. Had Random dizzy spell that evening. Scared the crap out of me. Since then I quit smoking 3 days after with two relapses but stopped for 1 1/2 weeks now. Also started and stopped prozac in the month in between these two months of hell!

Been lightheaded/ off balance a lot of the time sometimes not 24/7. Very nervous and anxious I can feel it even though I'm not anxious. I have had GAD and Panic Disorder since I was 14 I'm now 26.

I've seen my general practitioner about four times and an ENT , who both said it's anxiety triggered from the dizzy spell I had night after drinking. They did neurological exams on me, checked my eyes, my hearing and said I don't even need an MRI to ease my brain tumor or MS fear because I would have much worse symptoms. Are they right? I am sick of feeling like I have 80 pounds of cement in my skull and I'm looking through a glass bowl. Its been a while feeling like this! Yes I will have like a half hour here and there where I feel ok but its almost 24/7. I love to sleep just because I dont feel like this. Would a brain tumor or something be constant and not let up and get worse over the 2 months? Also, I take Xanax as needed.

I am scared to death I have something terrible

Brief Answer:
get further testing done

Detailed Answer:
hello and welcome to health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT with an experience of treating thousands with giddiness and light head with a good amount of success.

At the offset let me assure you that anxiety can very well bring out all the problems and symptoms which you have described. It can also be a withdrawal of the smoking and also secondary to the alcohol binge which you had.
To add to all this you do take medications like xanax and stopped prozac which can cause this as a withdrawal symptom or direct one.

In any case these are just speculations and the only way to get rid of these is by getting a battery of standard investigation done so that we can at least rule out any ominous cause of your giddiness. You must consider these:

-In any case get an MRI of temporal bone and CT Brain done. This is now a standard in any case of giddiness. It is a simple and non invasive way of finding even the tiniest of lesions and offering you a huge peace of mind. Get this and get back to me or any ENT with the report.

-Get an audiometry testing done which includes Pure tone and impedance and get back to me or any ENT with the reports.

-Get the vestibular function test called the electronystagmography and VEMP and get back to me or any ENT with the reports

-Search for simple exercises called the VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION EXERCISES and religiously perform them.

-Stop any addiction and do not start any new one

-Get a good teacher and go for Yoga or meditation which will definitely calm your anxiety and your symptoms in the long run.

-Do any work in a slow and steady manner and do not make any sudden movements.

-Avoid unknown and dark places till the time your symptoms are controlled.

Rest assured I am expecting all the tests to be normal but it will certainly help you when the reports and documentation is done.

Finally, just understand that our brain has immense capacity to heal and adapt so just give some rest and relaxation and most importantly some time so that all your problems are improved.

Hope this helps and if you do have anything more to ask I will be only glad to help

get well soon
