What Causes Dizziness, Nausea And Stomach Bloating After Eating?

Question: I am a 63 year old women and on no medications. I do not have high blood pressure or any health conditions that I am aware of. I am not overweight. Because diabetes runs in my family I check my blood sugar on a regular basis and am within normal range.

For the last few months I feel ill most of the time especially after I eat. I get dizzy, slightly nauseous and always seem to have a lot of air in my stomach.

About once a week I have extreme pain in my stomach and it refers to my chest, back and sides. It usually happens in the middle of the night and I have to stand up and pace until goes away. It lasts between 45 minutes to an hour and a half. It is much worse than the extreme pain I had when I had my gallbladder...it was removed about 8 years ago.

Also on 4 separate occasions in the last 2 years I have been given morphine and hydrocodone. I get this same pain but even more severe. The pain is worse than what I am actually taking it for. I have mentioned it to my Doctor and he just put on my chart that I could not take pain meds. It even happened with cough syrup I was given.

Brief Answer:
You should do all the exams mentioned below...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms are suggestive for biliary tract and/or pancreatic issue. However the first problems that need to be excluded are cardiovascular problems.

This is why if you were my patient I would have recommended to do the following examinations to find out what is exactly causing your symptoms:
- Blood work (including amylasemia, lypasemia)
- Complete cardiac check up with ECG, Cardiac ECHO, Stress test (to definitely exclude any cardiac problems)
- Chest X ray
- Abdominal ultrasound / CT /MRI scan for proper evaluation of biliary tract and pancreas. This will help to exclude any problems.
- Upper endoscopy to exclude gastric issues

It's essential to do all the above mentioned exams to determine what is exactly causing your symptoms.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
Dr. Klerida
p.s: If you have more questions to do, please don't hesitate to ask me again.
