What Causes Dizziness And Panic Attacks After Having Z-pack For Labyrinthitis?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: First things first I've been dealing with quite a bit of anxiety and panic. It started five years ago and went away. now its back, I take ativan as needed, but I try to control it myself before I think about medication. I just went to urgent care yesterday and the doctor diagnosed me with Labyrinthitis and was prescribed zpack.. A few hours after I took the first 500 mg dose I started to feel really tired, more foggy headed than I have been with Labyrinthitis, my body feels weak and I just feel out of it. I took the next day dose of 250 mg and I didn't feel much until about an hour ago when I got dizzy and started panicking, I took .25 of. an ativan and now I feel okay. my ear is still ringing badly though and I had weird chest pains... and I still don't feel the greatest . now are these side effects or am I just freaking myself out.. because honestly I don't like closing my eyes. I feel dizzy and in danger when I do

Brief Answer:
Anxiety can be managed temporarily

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing through HCM.

I have read your query and understood your concerns.

Most important here is the treatment of the primary illness that is labyrinthitis in your case and the dizziness, ringing and anxiety are secondary to it. If the anxiety is severe and very diabling then it can be managed temporarily by taking benzodiazepins on as and when required basis.

The symptoms of labyrinthitis can precipitate anxiety. So continue treatment for labyrinthistis and take follow ups as informed.

Do not take benzodiazepins for long duration and in high doses.

You should consult your ENT surgeon again and ask for symptomatic relief. You are not freaking yourself out but these are the symptoms of primary illness.

Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have further clarifications then close the discussion and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.
