Question: Hi. I am writing to inquire about my Mother who is 66 years of age. We spoke about a half ago. She told me that starting last night she has been really dizzy. She also passed out on her way to the bathroom last night, and has not been able to get out of bed this morning. I asked if she stopped any of her normal meds or started anything new. She said she has not taken her blood pressure medication for the past three days. I can't remember the name of said med, but could this be the cause of her dizziness and syncope?

Brief Answer:
Can be because of increased blood pressure

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome,

Yes, if she has missed her medicines from last three days, it can be due to accelerated blood pressure. She should go to the nearest emergency room and get her blood pressure and vitals recorded immediately..

History of mild unconsciousness can also be suggestive of Transient ischemic attack.

An MRI brain may be done to check for any cerebral anomaly. Dizziness can be because of elevated blood pressure or it can be due to transient ischemic attack also.
A baseline clinical evaluation should be done.

Feel free to ask in case of any further queries.

My sister is experiencing occasional episodes of dizziness, extreme fatigue, sweating, shortness of breath, and nausea. The onset has been sudden and lasts from several minutes to hours, though she says she has been feeling unwell in general for several months. In the episode I witnessed 2 months ago, we took her to the hospital. Her BP was very high (150 s over high 90 s) and she listed to one side when walking. She commented that she didn t feel right in her head and that it took effort for her to speak. There was no blurred vision, or noticeable speech difficulty. The ECG, MRI , and all lab work were normal. Her family physician has been unable to identify the cause and she is not being treated. Her BP is usually normal at the doctor s office, but she did a self check (at pharmacy) when last episode occurred and it was again in the 150 s to high 90 s. I m concerned something is seriously wrong. Suggestions?

I have a complicated 7 year history of low back pain with radicular symptoms after prolapsing 2 discs at L4/ L5 when moving house and then L5/ S1 18 months ago. The subsequent CT (can t have MRI due to SCS) apparently showed no nerve impingement or stenosis. 11 weeks ago I had surgery to implant a 2nd lead into my SCS which was implanted 2 years ago and went back to work a month ago. Since my return, my back pain has got really bad, as has the sciatica. It has prgressed over this period so that last weekend I had electric shock type pains in my legs and then I m now getting very bad pins & needles and tingling in both legs, my back, my lower abdomen and yesterday also my saddle area . Today I just have it in my legs, hips and low back as well as burning pain down the sides of my legs but as the day goes on it generally gets worse and at night I can t feel the stimulation from my SCS as it is so stroing. It feels like I have cool water running down from my lower back and down both legs. I have an appointment for reprogramming at the end of the week. Do I take this progression seriously as possibly cauda equina syndrome or similar or leave it and see how it progresses? Many thanks.

I didn t really think of it, but I continued talking and it happened again and I couldn t say the word I was thinking of. I had an MRI about 5 months ago because I had a headache that lasted about 3 weeks but it subsided. The MRI cam back fine.
