Brief Answer: Do not worry Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to health care magic, I am Dr Sriram Nathan an ENT surgeon and I have seen more than ten thousand cases of giddiness with good treatment and outcomes. In effect I am assuring you that you have nothing to worry about. A single episode of giddiness is something which we all suffer and in most of the cases it will definitely get better and not recur. The same goes for the sensation of listening to your heart beat in the ear which we call as the tinnitus. This is a common occurrence and will become better. In any case medications like codeine and zyetec (cetrizine) can itself cause these problems in the acute phase and occasionally when you have stress. Medication like aspirin is also known to case most of these symptoms and this is also well documented. However it is a very important medication which needs to be taken in any case. My advice to you would be these -Take rest and steam inhalation for a couple of weeks. Do not take complete body rest but just avoid sudden movements and turning of head. Do not suddenly get up from lying down position and always hold the railings when you climb stairs. -Avoid added salt in your diet -Keep your blood pressure and blood sugar under check and in good control with these I am sure you will get better in a couple of weeks. In case you do not get better in a week or if the symptoms recur then you must do these: -Get a CT brain and CT Temporal bones -get an audiological evaluation done including Pure tone and impedance Get the above tests and get back to me or any ENT with the reports. You may also schedule an appointment with a Neurologist. Finally I would reassure you that you have nothing to worry about if this is just an isolated incident. Hope this helps and if you have any more doubts you can always get back to me and I will be glad to help you out regards Dr Sriram Nathan

I had an MRI last September it showed nothing. could things have changed since then? This is the first time that I have had an episode such as this but within the hour I kind of feel a zing in my tooth and pain behind my eye. I am prone to migraines I have glaucoma. If I have an episode such as this within the next two weeks do you think I still should have an appointment with a Neurologist? PS I read that this might be a warning of a stroke .? it is on the right side ? did I mention that. Thank you for your time./

Brief Answer: do not worry Detailed Answer: Hello again, Since your MRI was normal at that time you can be reassured that you have nothing to worry about. But in any case our body is constantly changing and the present state may be different but this is only a rare theoretical possibility. In any case if the episode does recur there is no harm in consulting a neurologist and I would urge you to do so. Stroke have many warning signs and as you rightly opined this may be one of them but a single episode of tinnitus or giddiness which is self limiting is unlikely to be a call for concern. Since you had mentioned it is on the right side I had advised you to try the steam inhalation as even Eustachian block may cause this. The migraine and glaucoma are unrelated to your present condition, so also the tooth ache or eye pain. Summarizing I would like to assure you again that you are fine and if the symptoms recur or increase then and only then you need to consult an ENT/ Neurologist. Meanwhile just take it easy and keep your stress levels in control regards Dr Sriram Nathan
