What Causes Dizziness After A Tympanoplasty?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: Hello, I had a Tympanoplasty on 3/7. During surgery I has a CSF gush. Leak lasted 3 days and I was admitted to hospital during that time with extreme dizziness, headache, vision issues. Now 3/26, I am home but still have some dizziness. CT scan done which looks normal per my ENT Doc. Everything I read says my dizziness and headaches should have passed by now. I cannot drive or even walk straight without looking like I have been drinking. Doctor says it will eventually go away. Is there anything additional I should be doing? She did complete the surgery and placed the prosthetic bone in place and explains gush due "probably" to congenital issue.

Brief Answer: it may take some more time Detailed Answer: Hello Your doctor may be right in telling you that the gush maybe due to a congenital condition amdwgp a Known complication of the ear surgery. Please don't worry as generally people recover completely by two to three weeks;p but in some people this recovery may be prolonged to even few months. You will be fine, just have to wait for some more days. Meanwhile you should avoid straining yourself and avoid lifting heavy weights . You should also avoid air travel and should keep the ear dry. There are a few exercises which will help you recover faster and these can be taught to you by your ent doctor. You can discuss about those exercises in your next follow up. Have some patience. Don't worry you will be fine Take care
