Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I wake at night from a sound sleep with a fast heartbeat. After a few minutes it slows to normal..60/minute. Occurs some times after strenuous exercise, hectic work schedule or flare up of heartburn and loose bowel movements. How can I deal with this?

Brief Answer:
?? Suspecting palpitations to be the cause, based on your description

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Based on the information you have provided, I am suspecting palpitations to be the cause for your presentation. The most common causes for the appearance of palpitations are:

+Strenuous exercise
+Certain foods (e.g. chocolates+
+Caffeine
+Carbonated drinks
+Tea
+Smoking (especially cigars)
+Cough medication
+Fever
+Strong emotional stress
+Anxiety
+Asthma medication
and a few other causes.

Treatment usually first includes diagnosing/finding the cause for the presentation, but here are a few list of approaches:

+EKG: Which will help find any abnormalities in rhythm, beats, etc; once this is found they are treated
+Find the trigger and treat it

Other than this, palpitations mostly do not require treatment, because unless something is really wrong, why treat it and possibly give rise to some other side effect or abnormality. Meet with your doctor sir, and I am sure that if something is wrong, he/she will surely be able to help.

I hope you find my response helpful, please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
