What causes distended lower abdomen post gall bladder removal?

Posted on Tue, 10 May 2016
Question: My lower abdomen is always very distended. This started to occur after they removed my gallbladder 2 years ago. There is not alot of pressure, but the distension is quite noticeable. My GI doc diagnosed me with SIBO and put me on a corse of Rifaxin. He did this twice and nothing changed. Can SIBO cause such obvious lower abdominal Distention? What other causes should I look into? What are your thoughts on taking Candibactin AR and Dr for sibo?

Brief Answer:
Chances of Post Cholecystectomy Syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

We have seen patients with these vague GI symptoms after removal of gall bladder and it is very well documented in literature as Post Cholecystectomy Syndrome

It is advisable you stop junk food, fried and fatty meals, take small frequent small meals

Take a good PPI twice a day for two weeks followed by once a day for four weeks

A probiotic twice a day for two weeks will also help

Hope this helps

Brief Answer:
Rifaximin is time tested

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your followup

Rifaximin and probiotic are time tested for SIBO

Sometimes inadvertent antibiotics cause the normal healthy bacteria of Intestine to eliminate and cause super infection in form of SIFO in those cases these molecules will work

Hope this helps
