What Causes Discomfort Wrist After Having Screws In Distal Radius?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Jul 2014
Question: I have a wrist plate with 8 screws in my distal radius from a fracture (7) months ago. I am having a hard time twisting my wrist and some discomfort in the joint. I also have a skin rash in the area of the scar. I assume this is the result of the plate and screws. Should I have the plate removed and what are the risks ??? How long will the recovery take following the removal surgery ??? Thank You, XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there is a restriction of the wrist joint movement and discomfort is present then it is best to get the plate and screws removed.
It is a safe and small surgery. After the removal of plate and screws it usually takes 2 weeks for the soft tissues to heal completely. The discomfort is likely to decrease and the range of movement will be better.
I hope this answers your query.
