What Causes Disabling Pain In Right Foot Outside The Ankle Post An Injury?

Question: I have disabling pain in my right foot: arch, but mainly outside side of the ankle, and I suppose what must be a tendon. Left foot is similar discomfort, but not disabling. I usually wear mail order arch supports, or drugstore. Yesterday, I Xsan a "Comfortable feet" store. I like every other customer was to payou $600.00 for one pair of "training" arch supports, and two other pairs for "relaxing". Instead, I bought two pair of ankle supports, that each have three adjusting straps from a drugstore. Day 1, they felt good. Day 2 was painful, especially walking on uneven surface.
In July, I had both complete knees replaced. It went well. I went through all steps of physical therapy. I returned to work. November 1, I wrecked my car. Three cracks to the socket of the left hip, one to the pelvis. Seven total ribs fractured, some frjont, some back, a lung was punctured. No surgery, just a long recovery of several steps of physical therapy. Because no surgery was done, no weight could be put on the left leg for some time, then 50%. Lots of physical therapy followed, including aquatic therapy, which allowed movement without weight on leg.
Home therapy by 3 or 4 persons from same company, was very restrictive. Walking and stairs were my main areas through they received little attention. Now, I am walking. I joined Planet Fitness for my final prep to gain endurance, and practice on a step machine. I'm due to return to grade school teaching March 1, online now are the feet a problem! I'very got to return to work. Olympic slippers feel somewhat comfortable. I can'tell wear them to work, and if I come up with one more condition that keeps me from teaching this year, I'don't rely expect to be fired.

Brief Answer:
Needs a consultation with the Podiatrist for evaluation!!!

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome from Dr. Hanif at HCM, the health forum of choice for all.

I appreciate the concerns you raised about your health. I have thoroughly worked through your case and feel sorry for the painful events and awful car accident you had.

The disabling pain due to car accident has been to its final destination of cure to some extent until now and that shows your commitment to struggle for God health. I appreciate your efforts.

Foot pain may be caused by:

Tendonitis - the infection of tendons of the muscles of arch of feet. This may be due to wear and tear phenomenon or senile changes to the posture.

Osteoarthritis is the other cause possible for that.

Diabetic patients also get peripheral pains like you have.
Gout is also a culprit for pain in feet. It is due to accumulation of uric acid in joint spaces.

You need to consult a Podiatrist for thorough evaluation of your feet based on the clinical suspicion and complete physical examination. I preferably suggest you not to wear any supports for feet until your Podiatrist recommend one for you. He will make radiological investigation too in addition to blood work. He will then be able to order specific shoes according to your feet that best suits the arch and curvature of your feet. In such patients as you, we need even separately designed shoes for both feet.

Once physical support through Orthotics and shoe replacement is observed, he will need also to rule out other causes for the issue. He will observe you for some time and if felt appropriate he may refer you to an Endocrinologist and/or an Orthopedist for evaluation. May be you get better only with management from Podiatrist.

Please avoid the planet fitness until.your Podiatrist clears it out for you. Otherwise you may cause more damaging impact to feet. Your Podiatrist is the personnel to decide which exercises are best suited to you.

Keep a balanced diet and you may take Oral ACETAMINOPHEN 625 mg after meals. It will help alleviate some pain and discomfort. Apply Bengay Ultra Stretch Gel on both feet and massage it gently. Apply ThermaCare HeatWraps on feet for comfort. Dipping feet in Lukewarm saline water for 15 min many times a day will help get relief.

Hope it helps. Please feel free to ask more queries if further assistance is needed.
I'll be happy to help.

Regards!
