Brief Answer: What was the reason for visiting the ER? Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for using our services. I am so sorry to hear about this urine bag your son has been left with. I will like to know the reason for having taken him to the ER? did he have difficulties urinating? A urinary bag can be left in place for several reasons and in no way means that it would remain there for ever. Urinary retention, leaky bladder, to protect the kidneys, etc. I understand you are worried and more so because you were not informed why he should stay with the bag till he sees a urologist tomorrow. I will like to advice that this may just be a temporary measure for comfort and safety and in no way indicates that he has a very serious condition. Also, it will not cause any added problems if it should stay in place. I understand it would be difficult to tell what the exact reasons are as I did not make the decision but I can make a right judgment should I know what the reason for his ER visit was. Please, provide this information. I hope this helps. I wish you both well and encourage you to be relaxed. Hope to hear from you. Dr. Ditah, MD.

Brief Answer: Drugs, bladder stones, no cause, etc! Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this follow up precision. There are many over the counter drugs that can cause urinary retention especially cold and allergy medications. Check with him to see if he has taken any medications these days. The catheter was for sure left in so that they would make sure he has no problem at night urinating until he gets the chance to see a urologist. It would have been a nightmare to remove and let him return home with the risk to come back again at night for this same problem. happy to know you are relaxed. This is the first time and rarely would there be any big thing to worry about. If it should happen several ties, then I will understand there is something we should eb worried about but this being just the first time, I will not be too concerned unless i get some more information. I wish you well. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD.
