Posted on Wed, 9 Sep 2015
Question: Hey Doc. This afternoon I started getting a pain in my neck on the top left side of my XXXXXXX apple. I had a nodule their several years ago that shrunk. It's a little tender when I swallow in that area. Do you think it is a virus that is causing this? Swallowing is kind of difficult and I can breathe fine.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir

Going by description of symptoms of difficulty in swallowing and swelling, it is possibly a lymph node usually associated with upper respiratory tract infection. Difficulty in swallowing is likely to be due to Pharyngitis. Exact diagnosis will however depend on thorough clinical examination.

I would suggest you the following

1. Warm Saline Gargling

2. Short course of antibiotics

If the swelling and symptoms still persists then would suggest you to consult your primary care physician for further assessment.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

Take Care

Best Regards
Dr Shobha Deepak
