What Causes Difficulty In Sleeping While On Metoprolol And NicodermCQ?
Question: Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with hypertenion. I was prescribe metaprolol (50mg to be taken twice daily). I also decided to quit smoking. I am using NicodermCQ 21mg nicotine patches. (Formerly smoked 2 packs a day) So far, so good on the quitting smoking. Had a few puffs of one cigarette in last two weeks. I am having difficulties though. Never happened prior to metaprolol or nic patch. I have difficulty sleeping. I sweat profusely almost all the time, even when it is not hot. And I am constantly fatigued. Both mentally and physically. I want to sleep, but can't. By first break at work (about 2 hours into the day) my body feels like lead. Like I just finished an over-energetic excercise regime. Is there anything I can do to relieve these problems?
Brief Answer:
Side effects of medications taken
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
It seems you have side effects from Metoprolol and NicodermCQ.
I would advise you to wear NicodermCQ not more than 16 hours, you can remove it before going to bed.
If after that you have no improvement, and your symptoms are intolerable, I would advise you to take half dose of Metoprolol, until you see your doctor.
You should discuss with your doctor the possibility of changing Metoprolol with another medication, such as ACE inhibitor, or Ca channel blocker, which don't cause such side effects, also I think you should try to reduce NicodermCQ dosage.
Hope I could help you
Wishing you good health
