What Causes Difficulty In Passing Urine?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jun 2017
Question: Hello, My name is XXXX. I am having a problem urinating for the second time. The first incident was on 4/4/2017 and I was catheterized and it cleared up immediately. I have had extensive blood test, Urinary test by my Doctor. All test were normal. I am now taking (2) Tamsulosin HCL per night. I was doing fine until this morning and I feel like I can't urinate properly this morning. Should I go to emergency room before it becomes painful. I also have taken (1) Doxazosin Mesylate about 15 minutes ago.

Brief Answer:
Wait to go to ER until the bladder has full urine and you cant urinate.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

I would recommend to give a bit more time for the Doxazosin to work. It will need at least 45 min to start taking effect.

Also, if you are urinating a bit, it is better to avoid catheterization until you cannot urinate at all or until the bladder is full but not until it becomes painful. That because hopefully you will empty it yourself with the help of the medication, but also we wan't to avoid catheterization as much as possible to prevent urinary tract infection. But, do not leave it until you cannot bare it.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Ok - I am at the ER and they have completed a Urine Anaylisis and bladder scan. I have started urinating but have a severe burn.

Brief Answer:
Wait for the urine analyse. Most probably a urine infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am glad to hear that you have started urinating.

Most probably the urinary retention has happened because of an infection, which explains the burn feeling.
The urine analyse will show what it is and you may need to start antibiotics.
Also, I would suggest, that if urine analyse shows infection, you do a urine culture, before starting the antibiotic. In this way, even if the antibiotics will need to be started as soon as possible, you will know if you are getting treated right when you will have the result of the urine culture in 2 days.

I hope you be well fast.
Let me know if I can help more.

Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako
