Brief Answer:
Upper GI endoscopy should be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

If there has been progressive weight loss , inability to take food orally, pain and/or difficulty in swallowing food or liquids then an upper GI endoscopy should be considered. The symptoms described are alarm signs and in such a case esophageal pathology should be excluded. If she had gastroenteritis then the antibiotics and fluid replacement would take care of that infection. However, if she continues to loose weight and has difficulty in oral intake then a gastroenterologist should be consulted for diagnostic workup.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
