What Causes Difficulty In Losing Weight Along With Numbness In Hands And Head?

Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hello, I'm a 24 years old female and I've been having issue gaining and maintaining weight through out my teen life and I continue to still have the same issues even in my mid 20s. I'm 5' 3" tall and weigh about 45 kgs currently. Since last 5 months I have been experiencing numbness in my hands and the back of my head every morning. I also have frequent headaches near the eyes area on the forehead.
After consulting a doctor she gave me course of multivitamins for 7-15 days, which I did but still there seems to be no improvement.
I think I should probably go through a thyroid test. Is there any other test that would be recommended?

Brief Answer:
Relevant investigations suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I interpreted your required concern.

Yes certainly your symptoms needs an efficient evaluation.

Pertaining to the numbness of hands and back of the head, the possibility of Radiculopathy or nerve root disorder has to be ruled.

Hence I advise you to get an MRI of the cervical spine.

Thyroid disorders can also present with weight disturbances.

For complete clue to the diagnosis,I recommend the following set of blood investigations.

1. Thyroid function test.
2. Complete blood picture.
3. Serum albumin and total protein.
4. BMI.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
