What Causes Diarrhea Post Intake Of Augmentin For Sinus Infection?

Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I've taken 2 doses of Augmentin for sinus infection and have had watery diarrhea three times already. I've taken two probiotic capsules today as well. My doctor isn't sure this is even a true bacterial sinus infection. Can I stop taking the antibiotics or is that dangerous? Side effects are bad so far

Brief Answer:
Discontinue further use of Augmentin

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Going by description of diarrhoea starting after taking Augmenting , its possibly antibiotic induced diarrhoea. In the absence of high grade fever , you can discontinue further use of Augmenting .

I would suggest other measures which will help in relieving the symptoms of sinusitis

I would suggest the following which will definitelty help in managing upper respiratory infection

1. Warm Saline Gargling: Add 2 spoons of salt to glass of lukewarm water and gargle 3-4 times a day( this will help relive symptoms of sore throat possibly due to post nasal drip of sinusitis )
2. Antihistamine decongestant like Cetirizine will be helpful
3. Decoction: 1 cup of milk+ 1 teaspoon turmeric+ 2 gm of ginger+ 10 leaves of tulsi+ 2 black pepper+ 2 spoon sugar, bring it to boil. Serve it hot to her, few sips at a time. To take it 4 times a day.
4. Steam inhalation for 15 minutes every session 4 times a day
5. Decongestant nasal drops can be used

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you
