Question: To Dr. Stanko
Thank you for asking me how I am doing. My question was about post-op depression after general anesthesia. I am one week post-op, with a great prognosis of being cancer free. But the last few days I have experienced bouts of depression, sadness etc. I continue to try to be positive, but it creeks up on me. This happens after I have had GA.
Sincerely

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

It is quite common that the hard situation which is surgery can cause depression-like feeling. For sure anesthetic medicines can decrease the libido and cause sadness. Its because this medicines are sedative and its role is to decrease brain activity. So you may feel like depressed. But this is not a depression as a disease. It is more a temporary state which should go away in few days, maybe a week.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
