What Causes Delayed Periods?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: I am trying to conceive. My period is 3 days late, but I have taken 7 pregnancy tests and all were negative. My period is always perfectly on time. I am not stressed, I am eating healthy, not on birth control, and I don't smoke.
My last period was July 31. The next period was due the 28th of August. My cycle is very predictable, always on time and always starts in the morning. So, being 3 days late, I am very confused as to why each pregnancy test is registering as negative. I have tried 3 different pregnancy test brands, and styles, including digital.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

If the pregnancy test result is negative it usually means that you are not pregnant.

An occasional delayed period is normal. A delayed period can occur due to even physical exertion. Sometimes the reason for an occasional delayed period may not be apparent. Wait for a week and repeat pregnancy test. If that is also negative, consult Gynecologist and take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding.

I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama.

I have not exerted myself, everything has been normal. We used ovulation tests and a basal thermometer to track ovulation .

Hi,

Welcome back.
As I wrote before sometimes there is no apparent cause for delayed period.
Anxiety regarding pregnancy itself can sometimes delay the period .

I hope this helps.
