What Causes Death Of A Cancer Patient While On Chemotherapy?
Question: My dad was found in a chair sitting upright. My brother thinks he was waiting to die but he was found unclothed from the waist down and soiled himself. I think his heart just gave out on him at 11:30 monday morning...he had enough time to get help through the night but was a very private person...I think death just caught him out. From his fibit report, you can see his high heart rate (120-150 bpm) for hours preceding his death.
He was vomiting and had diarrhea that night as well... My dad overestimated his ability to fight this on his own I think...he was into fitness and was wearing a fitbit at the time of death... i think he stooped taking blood pressure meds because as he said he thought it would interfere with his chemo...he only got half a dose of chemo I was told as well...

Did my father pass away in pain? He died siting in a chair upright...what was the cause of death? He had a high heart rate for 5 hours from his fitbit info. My brother says he was waiting to die that last hour but he was found naked form the waist down and soiled himself...that's not how my dad would have wanted to be found...

Well even I agree that your dad was not waiting for his death. As said by you he had diarrhoea for which he might have been visiting bathroom number times and he might have become extremely fatigued due to dehydration or low blood pressure that he could not gather energy to wear his pants or get up from the chair.
The same reason ( extreme dehydration or low blood pressure ) might have causes his death. Other possibility is Heart attack or Stroke.

Ok, thanks. My brother told me he stopped taking his blood pressure medication because he thought it would interfere with his chemo. I would have thought that would increase his blood pressure as evidenced by his high heart rate??? but you seem to be saying he could have a high heart rate with low blood pressure as well is that right? He died looking at a picture of Jesus on the wall...he was a strong Catholic and sadly we found him a day later.
He was very health conscious as well...wearing a fitbit was an indication of that as well...I don't think he would do that if he was intending to die, right??? I think he thought was he was going through in those final hours was all part of the process of chemo.
His last 25 steps were very quick to the chair which leads me to believe he felt faint or was about to pass out...

Even low blood pressure causes high heart rate, infact high heart rate is seen more during low blood pressure only.
The reason why he skipped his pressure medication is unknown , probably he might also be having nausea or vomiting because of which he might have not felt like taking pressure medications.
Also due to excess dehydration there occurs loss of Sodium which in turn causes altered conscious level which might have hindered him from taking pressure medications.
