What Causes Coughing Up Mucus?

default
Posted on Sat, 23 May 2015
Question: I have been having some minor cough in the last couple of days. I don't even think it's a cold, but I notice that when I cough I feel like some mucous is coming out. Now I have the little device that tracks the oxygen saturation in your blood and in the last couple of days I've been having readings of 94 or 95. Then when in cough it goes to 97. That's this have any relation? Is this ok? Also I have been having a lot of allergies lately, does this have anything have to do with it ?

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the image you have attached.
No need to worry for your oxygen saturation and it's fluctuation with cough.
This is normal fluctuation.
Since you are allergic to many things, cough can be due to either allergic bronchitis or cough variant asthma.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT is needed to rule out bronchitis and asthma.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever had similar symptoms in the past?
2. Do you have chest tightness or chest pressure?
3. Do you have breathing trouble?
4. What kind of allergies do you have?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry much for this cough.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
Since you are not having any major symptoms except cough, I don't think any serious illness behind this cough.
Better to start combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs for 10days. You will mostly improve.
Hope I have solved your query.
