What Causes Cough With Blood In Sputum?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: high volume dust on the job led to heavy phlegm and then lung congestion for 2 weeks. At this point, the congestion has dwindled, but, with coughing up the phlegm there is blood present. I, also during this period, get the panic feeling of a drowning sensation. This occurs during the course of sleeping which I'll wake and not be able to return to sleep having to get up and walk it off until it subsides.

Further tests&prescription medicines advised as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

I read your medical history carefully and understood your problem.

I see you have respiratory problems as you are exposed to high volume dust at work. You have heavy phlegm and lung congestion for 2 weeks now.

Furthermore, you noticed blood while coughing in mucus secretions which can be normal in the circumstances of a lung congestion as the vessels of respiratory tract widen and tend to be ruptured.

The lung congestion is responsible for the panic or anxious feeling you may have, especially while sleeping. This is because the lung congestions is more severe during night than during the day.

Air pollution causes changes in lung function and asthma. Thera flu is used to treat the flu and cold symptoms. In your case you need something more than this over the counter drug.

However, before you need to see the doctor to do an X-ray of lungs, blood tests and respiratory function tests to evaluate the changes and prescribe more specific medications. To me, antibiotics are required together with bronchodilatators like Ventolin and nasal decongestant.

I also recommend to do aerosol-therapy to relieve congestion.
Hope it helped. Wish fast recovery!
Let me know if I can be of further help.
