Brief Answer:
No adverse effects, cough

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your question. I understand your concern.

I am glad we have regular patients that respect their regime correctly. Well, neither atenolol nor valsartan have cough as a side effect. So, to immediately answer your question, yes, you should take your morning pill, and restore to your original regimen. Actually, the "sartans" (valsartan) are given particularly because they subside the cough, which could be a side effect of the "prils" (enalapril, lisinopril). Atenolol has many beneficial effect, and me, personally, would always recommend it to treat hypertension, if there is no counterindication to use it (it does not cause cough).

This cough may be caused by various reasons, including the common cold or flu. If it is not accompanied with fever, and if it is without sputum, then bed rest and hot beverages for three days should suffice.

I hope my answer was helpful. If you have further questions, I would be happy to help. Please rate the answer, if you do not.

Kindest regards,
Dr. Meriton
