Question: I had pneumonia and was prescribed augmentin 875mg 2x a day for 10 days. That was 2 days ago, I'm still not feeling too good. Hot & Cold sweats, freezing and coughing, loosing my breath easily.if I'm not just laying around. I also have MS and wonder if that is making me still feel sick?

I took the Augmentin for the 10 days, and still feel as described.

Brief Answer:
augmentin did not work

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on the history that you have described, if you are getting fever spikes, shivering episodes along with shortness of breath and cough then clearly the augmentin 875mg 2x a day has not worked.

Repeat chest x ray, pulse oximetery and if indicated clinically, ABGs can be advised. Blood counts to look for raised TLC and ESR should also be done. If both are raised markedly then it can indicate a severe infection that would require possible hospitalization for IV antibiotics.

If you are maintaining good oxygen saturation and the investigations are relatively normal or clinically you are not toxic (as per your doctor) then a change in antibiotics e.g to moxifloxacin or clarithromycin should suffice. Terbutaline, steam inhalation, mucolytics and humidifier can also be advised as adjuvant treatment.

MS doesn't directly worsen the pneumonia. It can however add to the overall morbidity burden associated with the infection.

Pneumococcal and annual flu vaccine should also be sought. Talk to your health care provider in this regard.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
