What Causes Cough Along With Chest Pain?

Posted on Mon, 20 Nov 2017
Question: Good Afternoon.
I am a 59 year old woman non smoker in good health. But am having severe arm pains pains.
I had carpol tunnel surgery on both wrists in 1994 but it feels like a carpal tunnell attack.
My arms are in pain and are fine when I do not move but in both arms? I feel like the nerve endings are on fire. I
am not having any chest pains but do have a nasty cold right now. I seldom get sick. Have not had a head cold for over 3 years. When I cough to expel flem from the cold my middle back kills me. My arms have been like this for 6 yours and not getting any better.

Brief Answer:
I will recommend you get evaluated tomorrow. For now, add ibuprofen!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain and cold you have reported. I have reviewed the symptoms fully. It will be unlikely for carpel tunnel syndrome to attack boths hands at the same time. This points to the fact that it is likely an inflammatory process in the body responsible for this.

For now, managing the pain is the main approach. I will recommend that you add 600mg of Ibuprofen every 8hours to tylenol for better pain control. If symptoms remain same tomorrow, I will recommend you seek medical evaluation. This will also allow the lungs to be examined.

Keep me updated about this. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me and ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
