Brief Answer:
Eustachian tube dysfunction

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your ears. Your symptoms sound like you have a Eustachian tube dysfunction. This is the valve that equizes pressure from the internal ear. if it gets blocked from swelling then the ear will feel full with pressure and throb. You can try equalize the pressure by popping hte ear with yawning or doing a valsalva maneuver. This is holding your nose and blowing or bearing down like you are having a hard bowel movement. This will increase pressure in the throat and help open the Eustachian tube. If these measures don't help then get afrin nose spray or other nasal decongestant nose spray 2-4 times a day for 2-3 days. The decongestant will help reduce the swelling around the tube and again allow for equalizing pressure.

If none of these measures work then you may have fluid behind the ear and you will need to see a medical provider for antibiotics or other interventions.

If you need to fly you could try the nasal decongestant spray just before flying to help prevent the ear pressure from forming. Or you may need to postpone your flight if the pain or pressure worsens

In summary
1. Eustachian tube dysfunction
2. Try valsalva maneuvers
3. Nasal decongestants
4. Seek medical attention if no improvement
5. If you can't get relief before flying you may need to postpone your flight.
