What Causes Constant Productive Cough, Irritation In Lungs And Weakness?

default
Posted on Sat, 30 Jul 2016
Question: I've been constantly coughing for two weeks. I've tried Theraflu and Benedryl, but they don't stop the cough. I would say I cough once every five minutes. It is a deep cough that produces a small amount of phlegm. I feel a constant sense of irritation in my lungs as if a cough is about to happen at any time. I can't go out because I might be contagious. I have no fever, but the constant coughing is making me feel very weak and lethargic

Brief Answer:
Consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, we should rule out bronchitis in your case.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (pulmonary function test).
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilator (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
