What Causes Constant Nausea While Having GERD?
I am an 18 year old male with gastritis and gastro esophageal reflux disiease. I had a Nissen Fundoplication done in 2014. I am currently taking Dexilant 60mg and Levosulpiridia 25mg twice daily. I am also taking Famotidine 40mg before I go to bed. I am still suffering from acid reflux daily. My main symptom is nausea which does not allow me to eat meals consistently. I am currently 98 pounds. I have taken multiple lifestyle changes such as drinking only water. Eating small meals every 2-3 hours and raising my bed 6 inches. None of these changes have helped I still feel heartburn symptons and persistent nausea when I eat and after I eat. I also wake up 2-3 times a night about 5-6 days a week. What is your opinion of the medication Baclofen? I have also tried Zofran and Compazine to combat the nausea with no sympton relief.
Hi don't worry

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
I understand your concern.
Well wondering if you have reflux which is causing this nausea looks unlikely especially with the dosage of medication and surgery that you have undergone.
Worthwhile getting an esophageal manometry and pH analysis done after stopping the antacids you are taking.
Also worthwhile getting lifestyle modification in the form of regular walk exercises and avoiding stress if any is of utmost importance.
Also can consider getting liver function tests and creatinine to look for other causes also.
In addition I think a low dose of anxiolytic after consulting your physician like ssri or nortryptiline group of drug will help you to reduce dose of antacids and get good sleep reducing your reflux too.
Hope this answers your questions.
Wish you a speedy recovery.
Happy to help.
What you stated of me not having reflux due to all the medications I was taking is incorrect. In July 2016 and endoscopy was done with normal biopsy results. I was still put on Dexilant 60mg as a precaution. In October 2016 a second biopsy was done which showed transitional baretts esophagus in my cells and phyloric gastritis. I had a normal esophageal manometry done. Even with the levels of antiacid medication my DeMeester score was 15.3 during the PH test. This was done in November 2016. In August 2016 I was put on an ssri paroxentine with no positive effect so it was discontinued. What is you opinion of the medication Baclofen to possibly treat this condition. I do have acid reflux even though I have had a nssen fundoplication and am on heavy medication dosages, which is causing pain in my esophagus and persistent nausea.
I was hoping to get your opinion of the medication Baclofen for the treatment of acid reflux.
Thanks,
XXXX

Well short of reports of manometry and pH analysis I was thinking aloud that it is unusual to have such severe reflux after surgery and with these high dose of medication.
Don't take it otherwise also if a course of ssri has not helped you too.
Well baclofen is known to help in reflux disease provided you tolerate it well and dose being stepped up gradually. It might cause sedation in few.
Also there is a new drug call acotiamide available these days in most of the countries which helps in reducing reflux too can discuss with your physician about it.
Best wishes.
