Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: Hi

My son is 22 Months and weighs about 11.5 Kgs. He is getting high fever of the order of 102 to 103.5 from last 5 days. Apart from this , he has no other visible signs. No loose motions, No rashes on body, No ear pain, No cold and Cough etc. He is eating fine just a little less than his normal diet but he is taking feed of food and milk. He is also sleeping well. Another change for him is that we are currently in US and the temperature here is hovering around 0 'C. But he stays indoor where we maintain a temperature of 22'C. I took him to a doctor here but the doctor could not find any visible signs. She only said that he has slighly red throat and she asked if he is taking his regular feed which I said yes. It's been now 6 weeks for us that we are in US. He developed this fever on 30-Jan-17. We are worried "why his temperature is not coming down even after 5 days". He has no previous history of allergies and he has never been hospitalized. In the past he has had suffered from stomach flu a couple of times when he was in XXXXXXX Kindly suggest the way forward because I am very much worried now and don't know what to do next ?

Brief Answer:
Needs blood and urine tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Fever lasting for 5 or more days needs re evaluation and blood and urine tests if required to identify the cause of fever.
As there are no other symptoms, respiratory infection is unlikely.
It is better to consult your paediatrician again to look for hidden areas like ear, abdomen, etc.
A proper clinical examination along with required investigations may be needed at this time.
Continue paracetamol or acetaminophen till you consult your doctor.
Ensure he drinks fluids to keep him hydrated.
Wishing your child speedy recovery.
Regards
Arun
