What Causes Constant Cough, Ear Infection, Swollen Tonsils And Wheezing?

default

Question: Took my 2yr old to see our dr this am. Bad cough non stop. Dr said he has double ear infection, red swollen tonsils and could hear wheezing. Prescribed amoxocilyn & predisone. His cough has gotten worse after going to bed. Coughing so bad its hard to catch his breath. It's borderline sound like a seal when he is trying to get his breath between coughing. It is a very wet phlegmy cough. He sleeps between these bad coughing fits, but they wake him up in a screaming fit. His nose is now running clear, which this morning it was green. He's great at drinking plenty of fluids. Had a mild temp this afternoon but not since. If this coughing continues through the night, should he be seen again?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear
Welcome to the HCM,
Baby has developed severe Respiratory Tract Infection extending to middle ear. My opinion for such illness will be to
Improve the antibiotic to amoxicillin and clavunate (Augmentin) with doses of 50 mg per kg of amoxicillin.
Prednisone to be given for 4 to 5 days only.
Antihistaminic decongestant medicine (CPM ,phenylepherine like syrup sinarest) to be given 8 hourly basis.
Paracetamol @ 15 mg per kg to be given 4 to 6 hourly.
Bronchodilator (levosalbutamol) along with mucolytic ambroxol to be used for the wheeze.
Steam inhalation frequently,
Nebulization with (duolin and budicort) at least 6 hourly.
Ear drops with some anesthetic like Otogesic ear drops to be poured 4 to 6 hourly both the ears.
Discuss all about this with your Doctor.
Hope the symptoms will start relieving in day or two and treatment to be continued for at least 7 to 10 days.
Take care of hydration and nutrition because babies do become fussy and there is significant appetite loss.
It is my opinion that these measures to be taken But it is advisable all this to be done under the supervision of your pediatrician.
Hope the child will improve soon
Please feel free for the further clarification.
thanks

Thank you so much for your response. The type of antibiotic you suggested, is the one he is on. (With the augmentin). His coughing has stopped in the last hour and a half since setting up the humidifier.
Again, thanks so much for your advice.
