What Causes Cold Sweats At Night And Fainting During Defecation?

Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: 36 yr old woman ..gall bladder removed when I was 24yr.. I've taken 30 milligrams cymbalta for 10 years..occasionally take Xanax for aniexty. After greasy foods I have horrible cold sweats in middle of the night and almost pass out while in between having soft bowel movements every 10 minutes or so. I have to change my sleep clothes because they are wet with sweat then I get hot ..I feel like I am dying..I would rather be in labor all day. I do not eat meat or drink milk because I also have horrible cold sweats and bowel movements.. But there is usually little or no pain that I feel anywhere in my body when experiencing these symptoms. I do feel some better after using the bathroom but am pretty lethargic the next day. It's the worst scare of my life please help.

Brief Answer:
Anxiety can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such food reaction can be caused by several issues including chronic bacterial infection of small intestine, hyperthyroidism, pancreas issues and anxiety.
Chronic bacterial infection can appear due to recent antibiotics treatment, travel abroad and eating local foods or taking antiacids. Due to this factor, bad intestinal bacteria can appear in the small intestine and trigger all mentioned by you symptoms.
Hyperthyroidism is a known factor of such episodes as well as nervousness, hair loss, feeling warm all the time, accelerated heart rate.

Pancreas takes a part in fat digestion. In case of its insufficiency (or chronic inflammation) fat can not be digested. This gives fatty stools, foul smelling stools and weight loss.

Anxiety can also give symptoms described by you. There might be no visible reason of your symptoms other than abdominal nerves overreaction to foods.

I suggest you to consult gastrologist at first. Stool test, stool culture test, blood work, liver tests, pancreas tests, thyroid test should be done at first. You should start probiotic intake and consider Rifaximine treatment (special antibiotic for small intestine chronic infection).
If this results will come back negative and the Rifaximine treatment wont help, you should consider anxiety medicines change.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
