Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: Hi there, my baby boy DOB 6/2/2016 has been sick with a cold, lungs sound clean, ears good as of Friday but still has the residual clear boogies and cough. Anyway, he's now had a rash on his chest and abdomen for the past 3 days (I have photos I can attach) that's worse and night and better in the am... any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to a viral infection. Please upload an image of the rashes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It is possible that your child has a viral infection. Such infections are frequently associated with rashes. I would insist you to upload an image of the rashes. It could provide some important clues to what the underlying cause could be.

You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief. Use Nasoclear Saline Nasal Drops in case of nose block. If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol or acetaminophen (P-250, Crocin or Tylenol) to it bring down. Also use tepid sponging.

I would wait for your response. Let me know if I could help further.

Hello, thank you for your quick answer. Yes, we have been doing inhalation and fever he only had a few days last week. He is recovering and feeling better. I tried to attach photos in the area where it says "Upload New Reports". Please check, if not there, I can send you from YYYY@YYYY but there is no email for you given. Hopefully you received the photos. He is happy and eating, no diarrhea or vomiting, nothing out of the ordinary... and it is a bit strange that it is more strongly pronounced at the end of the day and in the morning very mild.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I have checked the attached images. The rashes are called milia. These are normal for a child of this age. However, I would also consider the possibility of it being due to viral cause. Even in that case you need not worry and it would resolve on its own. You may however give some antiallergic like Cetirizine Drops once daily for the next few days.

Since he is otherwise active and playful you need not worry.

Regards
